Transfer cavern Chuquicamata

We were hired to evaluate the status of the transfer cavern at Chuquicamata mine and follow up on repair works.

The transfer cavern at the Chuquicamata mine was commissioned in 2003. In July 2006 the cavern suffered a partial collapse of the east wall.

As a result there was a complete stop of all machinery and transport for ore material from the mine. In 2006 we were hired to designed the repair works of the transfer cavern.

In 2006-2007 we contributed with engineering geological follow up during the repair works, and in 2013 Codelco requested Norconsult to evaluate the status of the cavern. The assignment also included an updateof the prognosis for continued stability of the Transfer Station.
