Nordic – Office of Architecture and Norconsult teaming up to reach the peak of Nordic architecture
The biggest office of architecture in Norway is getting the biggest consultancy agency in Norway as its primary stakeholder. Norconsult and Nordic – Office of Architecture are joining forces to take on the biggest architectural and planning assignments in the Nordic region.
Nordic – Office of Architecture is home to the architects responsible for high-profile buildings such as Gardermoen Airport, St. Olav's Hospital and the Norwegian government building complex. Nordic is now to become part of the Norconsult Group, but will continue developing as a separate business and brand. Norconsult is purchasing 90 per cent of the shares. Nordic – Office of Architecture will continue operating with the same management team and 11 partners in the group of owners, and no changes will be made to the Norconsult organisation as a result of the transaction.
"The two companies complement one another perfectly and joining forces with Norconsult will give us what we need to continue developing an ambitious and long-term culture of quality. We will have the Nordic region as our domestic market and a launchpad for major, international commissions. Together, we will stand even stronger in the marketplace, better equipped to take advantage of the digital revolution taking place in our industry. All in all, this move opens up opportunities for our architects to grow and create fantastic architecture," says Gudmund Stokke, Chairman of the Board and Principal Partner at Nordic – Office of Architecture.
Norconsult and Nordic – Office of Architecture have previously collaborated on a number of projects including Gardermoen and Flesland airports, as well as the LHL, Førde and Aker hospitals.
"This is a continuation of Norconsult's existing strong focus on the architectural professions and reinforces the competitiveness of both companies. From our perspective, Nordic was the obvious choice: they have a solid base of skills and a culture that gels neatly with our own. Together, we can provide robust, inter-disciplinary Nordic skills and experience in the fields of regional planning, project design and architecture," adds Per Kristian Jacobsen, President and CEO of Norconsult.
Nordic – Office of Architecture employs 170 people in Oslo, Copenhagen and London, while Norconsult employs 3,350 people at 93 offices in Norway and around the world. The transaction is scheduled for finalisation before summer 2018, subject to approval from the Norwegian Competition Authority.
