Norconsult supports Equinor’s offshore wind project development off the coast of New York
Equinor has recently been selected for the largest-ever US offshore wind award. Kjeller Vindteknikk, a part of Norconsult, has aided the project.
The contract consists of two projects: Empire Wind (816 + 1,260 MW) and Beacon Wind (1,230 MW), both located outside of New York. In total, the areas for the two projects stretches to 208,000 acres, or 840 square kilometers. When completed, the wind-farm will provide more than 3,3 gigawatts of clean electricity to a million households in New York state.
For both projects, the work provided by Kjeller Vindteknikk includes meteorological simulations, wake effect analysis and energy production estimates. In addition, validation of the measurements was performed for the Empire Wind project.
- This is a huge project, which is we are very excited to be a part of. That Equinor choses Norconsult to be their partner on such a prestigious project is a solid confirmation of our competence, something that we are immensely proud of. This proves that even a small company from Norway can assert themselves on the world-market for offshore wind, says Lars Tallhaug, head of Kjeller Vindteknikk
Kjeller Vindteknikk is the leading provider of measurements and anlysis of wind, as well as climate effects such as downpour and icing in the Nordics, with operations in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland. Kjeller Vindteknikk was acquired by Norconsult in 2019.
