The project is one of largest transport and infrastructure contracts to be awarded in Norway, and Avinor announced its decision on 31 August. Norconsult will be assisted on the project by subcontractors LPO Arkitekter and Archus Arkitekter.

An enormous vote of confidence in Norconsult

“Being awarded one of the largest and most important transport projects in Norway is an enormous vote of confidence in the company. Norconsult, and subcontractors LPO Arkitekter and Archus Arkitekter have extensive experience of airport projects of all sizes and we are keenly anticipating using our collective expertise to add value for Avinor and Bodø. We are looking forward to getting started on the exciting and challenging New Bodø Airport project,” explains Norconsult CEO Per Kristian Jacobsen.

The Norwegian Ministry of Transport and Communications has commissioned the construction of a new airport in Bodø to create more space for urban development. The estimated cost of the new airport, which is scheduled to be completed between 2024 and 2026, is NOK 6.5–7 billion.

The project consultancy group was appointed following an open tender competition. The agreement will initially cover the drafting of an outline project design proposal. However, Avinor also has options to commission pre-project design, in-detail project design and follow-up during the construction period.

Strong tenders from well-respected bidders

Avinor received tenders from several well-respected bidders, and after carrying out a thorough evaluation and holding negotiation rounds decided to award the contract to Norconsult.

“We are delighted to have reached this important milestone in the project. Key personnel with expertise and experience, a rational organisation and implementation model, as well as competitive pricing were critical factors in the decision to award this important contract to Norconsult,” explains Stine Ramstad Westby, EVP Operations and Infrastructure at Avinor.

The estimated value of the outline project is NOK 10–15 million.
The estimated value of the contract, presuming that all the options are exercised, comes to NOK 300–600 million.
