Norconsult AS through Midroc Rodoverken AB of Sweden has entered a contract with Wärtsilä Projects OY for the design of a full containment LNG tank.

Lysekil tank lifting

The construction at site will commence in April 2015 and the terminal will be in operation early 2018.

The LNG tank of 50 000 m3 storage capacity is the main storage unit for the new LNG import terminal, which is to be built for Manga LNG in Finland. Manga LNG OY is owned by Outokumpu plc., Ruukki Metals ltd, Skangass ltd and EPV Energy ltd.

The LNG tank will be a full containment tank according to the European Standards EN 1473 and EN 14620. This includes an inner tank of 9% nickel steel and outer tank of casted concrete. Insulation in between contributes to limit the boil-off of the liquefied gas stored at a temperature of -162 degC.

Norconsult has extensive knowledge regarding design of such LNG storage tanks. Previous the company has designed similar LNG tanks for the Risavika LNG production plant and the Lysekil LNG terminal.
Norconsult started the structural design late 2014 and will continue the work through 2015 including assistance to Contractors at site.
